After four absolutely lovely days in Mont Tremblant, we packed up and headed off for our day of driving. Tom & I decided that since were so close to where my dad grew up, we would take a drive through Trois Rivieres. "Close" being relative, as in Trois Rivieres is a 3 hour drive from Mont Tremblant, and Phoenix is a 6 hour flight away. We navigated our way to Trois Rivieres. We could not find the right cemetery, but we did find (I think) the spot where his middle school used to be. It is still a school, but I am guessing from the looks of it, that the actual buildings were torn down and rebuilt.
We found the building he lived in as very young child: 43 St. Maurice, third floor. There's a basement apartment in this building, so even though it looks like 2 stories, I think this is the right one.
This is the view down St. Maurice |
This is what much of the town looked like: three-story brownstone-like buildings. |
We found his grade school, E'cole St. Paul. I think this looks like it may be the same building?
That's our trusty rental car in the photo. Ooops. |
After our adventure ALL around Trois Rivieres, we walked down the main street in town for a bit to eat. We found a HUGE ice cream cone and there was a Grand Prix race somewhere in town because we could hear the cars buzzing around, but never saw them...other than this one.
We visited the port area, but there wasn't anything touristy to do or see. This is the Saint Lawrence River. It's huge. Just look at that giant ship in the second photo.
Coming up: Montreal.
