Middle School!

August 8, 2011

Today Grace started middle school!  She wasn't nervous that I could tell.  She had picked out her outfit last week and spent the last few days packing and re-packing her backpack.  Then she came home today and took everything out and reorganized it yet again.  OCD anyone?
She looked adorable and even grown up with her newly shaved legs.  yes, you heard me right, she we spent a loooong time last night learning how to shave.  I don't remember when I first shaved my legs, but middle school seemed like a relatively appropriate age.  She said it was "so fun" then after about 45 minutes she said it wasn't that fun any more.  Really?! Big surprise.  See how FUN it is 30 years from now.  Not so much.

Here is my beautiful big girl on her way to 6th grade.
And my beautiful baby girl on her way to preschool many years ago...how time flies.

Send good thoughts, prayers for low scores, anything that may give Tommy some good luck on the golf course today.  This is the first day of try-outs for the Brophy golf team.  Although it is a long shot because the coach expects players with even par scores to make the team, our own Tommy is heading out today and tomorrow to play 9 holes in this miserable heat.
If he makes the cut after 2 days, he moves on to the second cuts which are 3 more days this week.
We are just hoping he doesn't get cut the first round because he would have to get that bad news on his birthday.  That would suck.

Yesterday was a convocation ceremony (is that redundant?) for the freshmen.  They all looked so handsome in their "mass dress" (slacks, button down shirt, and ties).  As the priests, principal, and alumni were speaking I swear I had to work hard not to tear up.  In four short years my baby will be off to college.  I am having a much harder time sending him on to high school than I did sending him to kindergarten.  I think because in 4 years he will be ready and able to make it on his own and excited to be off to new adventures.  When he started kindergarten the new adventure awaiting him was the big-kid playground and he was only going to  3rd grade in four years...not college some place far from me.

So I am going to try and savor every day he is still here and wanting to hang around the house until this time in 2015 when I will be helping him move into a dorm room somewhere.
Here is how handsome he looked yesterday.

Cozy in Oklahoma

August 4, 2011

Last month the kids and I went to visit Grandpa Andy in Oklahoma.  Jennifer and her kids met us there.  It was a Hinse family reunion.  It was also a heat wave and H-O-T hot.  We were relieved from the heat by spending time on the boat and tubing.  It was a lot of fun.  We fished one night and Grace & Lance caught the only fish of the outing.  Unfortunately we had to throw them back because they were itty bitties.
Here we go with the photo highlights.

Tubing...Lance who is 5, did it by himself!

There was also a lot of jumping on the trampoline despite the heat.
 And playing outside...

 And cards inside

What? Is that Tommy & Grace playing nice together?  Yes, it is...and on camera!

Thanks for the good time Grandpa Andy!

Splash!

Today my friend Jeanette and I took a hydrofit (aka water aerobics) class at the gym. It was a hoot and we think we actually got a work out. We were met many of the regulars who are old enough to be our moms and very friendly. The waist bands that keep you afloat also topple you over if you don't work on your balance. It's harder than it looks! I am just sad I forgot to get a picture of J and I in our belts and gloves. Take my world for, we looked gooood!
